Dr Binks graduated from the University of NSW's MD Program in 2014. After time spent in Prince of Wales Hospital, St Vincents Hospital, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Cambridge in the UK, he undertook junior doctor training in Wagga Wagga. It was here that the comaraderie and hands-on experience of regional healthcare confirmed Dr Binks' commitment to working regionally long term.
Dr Binks graduated as a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in General Surgery in 2022. Dr Binks enjoyed his training thoroughly and had particular interest in laparoscopic gallbladder and hernia surgery. His training saw Dr Binks complete a Masters of Traumatology through the University of Newcastle, publish over a dozen peer reviewed papers and present at multiple national and international conferences. Dr Binks has extensive experience in endoscopy and is GESA-certified to perform colonoscopies and gastroscopies.
It was during his time in General Surgery training that Dr Bnks became interested in the rapid advancement of concoplastic breast surgery and its need in regional NSW. After completing general surgery training, Dr Binks was immediately accepted into the competitive Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BSANZ) post-fellowship training program and allocated a much coveted position on the Central Coast of NSW. This position saw Dr Binks gain extensive operative experience in benign and malignant breast surgery, as well as advanced oncoplastic techiniques such as the Wise pattern therapeutic mammoplasty, perforator flap based breast conservation (eg LICAP) and implant based breast reconstruction. He went on to complete his formal Breast Surgeons ANZ post-fellowship training with a year at the Royal North Shore and Mater Hospitals. This year was invaluable in providing Dr BInks further exposure to high-volume, high-quality breast cancer care with many of Australia's leading breast surgeons, plastic surgeons and multidisciplinary team members. Through the BSANZ training program, Dr Binks acquired extensive experience with breast reduction surgery and breast implant removal with mastopexy. It is exciting that women suffering from symptomatic macromastia and breast implant complications will have the chance to remain local to have their symptoms addressed.
Dr Binks' final year of post-fellowship training also provided the wonderful opportunity of working at the Melanoma Institute of Australia (MIA), with some of the worlds leading melanoma specialists. He is excited to bring his melanoma surgery experience to Orange and the Central West and allow patients further opportunities to stay nearer to home for their care and follow up.
