New State-of-the-Art Rehabilitation Facilities for Orange

Nov 01, 2014

The first patients have been welcomed into the recently commissioned hydrotherapy pool which forms part of the rehabilitation facilities at Dudley Private Hospital.

The long awaited hydrotherapy pool was built thanks to a $1.445 million grant received from the federal government through its regional Health and Hospital Fund announced in the 2012 budget.

Dudley Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer Trevor Matheson said the pool was a much needed addition to the existing rehabilitation services at Dudley, providing local people with a high quality rehabilitation option and preventing the need for them to travel to Sydney for this service.

“This new development will also assist Dudley Private Hospital to meet the ever-increasing demand for rehabilitation services in Orange and surrounding regions,” Mr Matheson said.

As part the funding agreement the hydrotherapy pool will also be available to community groups requiring access to the therapeutic benefits of hydrotherapy.

In addition to the new state-of-the-art 50 square meter pool, the rehabilitation facilities at Dudley Private Hospital include a large gymnasium, occupational therapy spaces and day patient areas.

“Many of our rehabilitation patients have had surgery with us and are then referred to the rehabilitation unit. However, some patients have had surgery out of the area and then return to Orange where they can undergo their rehabilitation either as part of the day program or admitted for a period, allowing them to be close to home and family.

“The hospital offers a full range of services for patients recovering from major joint surgery, a stroke, accident, pain management or any condition where there is a need to improve tolerance, strength, pain relief and or functional disability.”

The redevelopment was undertaken by Fugen Construction and has taken approximately 9 months to complete, during which time there has been minimal disruption to normal services.

In addition to the hydrotherapy pool construction, a $5.8m development is also underway at Dudley Private Hospital which includes the addition of two new theatres, a new perioperative suite and recovery area.

The new theatres were commissioned recently with the remaining theatres undergoing a staged redevelopment to bring them in line with the new facilities.

All works are expected to be complete by January 2015 followed by a formal opening.
